MURTHY ASKS FOR MORE IT DATA

In God we trust, everybody else must come with data — a cardinal principle that governs every Board member of Infosys before entering the meeting room. On Monday morning, this logic was extended to the Karnataka government.
When ‘Brand NRN’ chaired his first meeting to Vision Group on IT at Infosys campus, NR Narayanamurthy bought a fresh perspective to the way the government must look at IT. He did this by first asking for more data on the present scenario. In order to be able to uncork the true potential of IT, the Vision Group requested the department of IT, BT and science and technology to provide a series of baseline figures like number of students per PC, number of government employees per PC, etc.
It not only reiterated that Karnataka continues to reign supreme both for existing firms and potential investors, but also the fact NRN does not move an inch without having data on hand. With the help of various reports prepared by the likes of UNDP and World Bank that cover e-governance readiness of different states, the Vision Group felt the state would be able to understand where it stands in this regard and hence take necessary measures.
